Peak Performers embody the spirit of Active Teams, dedicating themselves to maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle. Among our recent Peak Performers on Active Teams is Emily Gane, a Senior Account Manager at Six, a human-centred design consultancy which encourage active employees.
We asked Emily how she stays so active and if she has any tips and insights on maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle in the workplace.
The endorphins and boosting my mood is my number one driver for staying active.
It helps me stay focused at work, be a better friend, partner and person to be around, and just generally feel better.
I like to mix up what I do to stay active, so I try to do one run a week, a couple of pilates and/or strength sessions, I've just starting swimming which I'm loving, and I try to walk everywhere.
Even if I'm really busy I try to prioritise 10 or 20 minutes of moving my body most days.
Fitting it in around a busy day, and finding the motivation to get outside in the cold and wet months.
Better sleep is probably the biggest benefit. Sleeping better gives me more motivation to look after myself.
I find exercise is addictive, the more I'm consistent the more I enjoy it.
I try to make staying active a non-negotiable in my day.
It’s important to carve out time in my calendar/diary. Start small, even a short walk, five or 10 minutes of moving will help build healthier habits.
